78% of people in Jordan are overweight, obese

It is estimated that 422 million adults developed diabetes globally in 2014, compared to 108 million people in 1980, according to Khaberni.

The global prevalence of diabetes has nearly doubled since 1980, rising from 4.7 percent to 8.5 percent in adults, and this brings into focus the risk factors associated with diabetes, such as being overweight and obese.

Over the past decade, the prevalence of diabetes has increased significantly in low- and middle-income countries, compared to high-income countries, the UN reported.
