Doctor Says Monkeypox Has Not Received Enough Attention Due to Coronavirus

Consultant dermatologist Dr. Safwan Al-Adwan said Saturday that the World Health Organization's declaration of an emergency state to deal with monkeypox acknowledges that the disease can spread, and may not be controlled.

He said the world is on the verge of an uncontrollable disease, due to the lack of information about it and vaccinations. 

He pointed out that the history of the disease is not recent, but that it has been discovered since 1980, when the first case was recorded in Africa, specifically in the Congo.

Al-Adwan explained that monkeypox did not receive enough attention as it emerged in 2019, in conjunction with the coronavirus pandemic. 

He said that the Ministry of Health, the National Center for Epidemic Control and the medical staff in Jordan are able to raise citizens' awareness of the seriousness of the disease, especially those people who travel a lot and have contact with people abroad. 

Al-Adwan concluded that there is medical research in Denmark, indicating the availability of monkeypox medicine, which gives the Jordanian state an opportunity to bring it to the countr
